The difficulties of changing an unhealthy lifestyle to a healthier lifestyle are influenced by the way people think. People might live minutes away from a park or a sports centre, but that doesn’t mean that they will exercise. Some people find that they need company because they don’t feel comfortable exercising on their own, or that they are just lazy.
It also comes down to time, some people might be too busy at work or have other commitments and whenever they can get the chance to take a break they wouldn’t want to exercise.
Another barrier would be the family involvement in the diet. If the whole family is involved in a healthy diet, it is more likely to be successful because you have family support and you are not tempted to eat unhealthy food that might still be around the house. The part of the body most affected when adolescents are on fad diets is mainly the mind. They continuously think about what they can’t eat and restrict their body from important nutrients that the body needs to remain healthy. As an effect their face can appear pale, and they won’t have any control over their diet resulting in binge eating and they will end up gaining more weight. The reasons that adolescents starve themselves are because of media giving them false images of what people look like, peer group pressure and low self-esteem.
